Sharing the Silence

Sharing the Silence

Communing with the rhythm of the day
footsteps soundless on cool morning grass
forget tomorrows to-do list, I whispered to a sun-sitting bird
throw away yesterday’s dream-wish
it’s not relevant in today’s world….

live in the now… a motto I preach
but not always have I lived by what I teach
and so with shame echoing my name
I ventured beyond the man-made path….

I walked along the drying creek
that dwindles to a trickle week by week
my spirit longs for prolonged rain
so the creek can sing to me again…
… and yet I still feel enchanted
by the solace the small creek granted
… and wandering along the overgrown bank
I gave my thanks
to Mother Nature…

clouds of butterfly fluttered by
lifting my wilting spirits sky high
mostly yellow…some black and white too
and one a startling sapphire hue…
dragonflies skimmed the shallow stream
translucent wings sparkled pristine
in mingled light crisp and clean…

hidden dells opened to reveal
verdant glades luminous and surreal
where runnels still tumbled over water-washed rock
and a covey of wild dove gather in flocks…
… a lone ibis wades ankle deep
a seasoned mage, he does not speak
content to watch me watching him
as we share in the silence and the fresh Autumn wind…
